The YMCA climbing wall is about to get even cooler. An extension to the wall will push it up through the current ceiling, making it 63 feet - about as tall as the famed one at Seattle's REI store. Whatcom County's YMCA is truly top-notch. It regularly updates its fitness programs and opportunities to keep pace with the fitness trends and the desires of its users. While many communities have YMCAs that struggle to compete with private gyms, our Y is strong, vibrant and valued, and offers opportunities to kids and adults who might not otherwise be able to afford the kinds of climbing, swimming, sports and camp activities it provides.
These activities are not just about fitness, they're about teaching trust, respect and working together.

In his January 2002 State of the Union address, President Bush called on Americans to commit to 4,000 hours (approximately two years) of community service in their lifetimes. On January 28, America's Promise (www.americaspromise.org) conducted a poll asking Americans if they would answer the President's call: 81% said yes. Be part of that 81%.
